Apart from the more serious messages at Christmas time, we’re half way through our season and the GHK Minis have had a busy Autumn. By the time you read this, we’ll have played eight matches and one tournament (two for the P7s) as well as our regular Sunday training sessions. The P5s and P7s have both won tournament trophies, P4s reached semi-finals and P6s won their first tournament games. All players are demonstrating tremendous improvements and a great sense of camaraderie – both competitively and as friends.
We’re delighted that so many players (and parents) have chosen to join the club – especially at P3 entry level (which includes our first girl member for a few years). The P5s and P7s have played before Glasgow HAWKS matches, and we’re fortunate in that Hawks players have agreed to provide some master-class coaching.
Our special events have all helped to make Sundays that much more enjoyable:
- The Family BBQ had a glorious day of sunshine and games;
- More than 60 joined the curry & disco night (our thanks to Sanjay Mahju);
- 75 players, coaches and parents went to the Samoa match at Murrayfield to support out national team (and learn Murray Stewart’s joke repertoire);
- Mince pies and mulled wine will be rounding us off for Christmas (literally!).
For the second half of our season, we have another eight ‘bounce’ games and three tournaments (including our own). We’re also organising a family ceilidh in early February, and of course are looking forward to the wine tasting evening on Saturday 25th March 2006 (eve of our tournament). The importers of Crystal/Louis Roederer have kindly agreed to come along with their ‘shampoo’ to get things started. We suggest you mark your diaries. {A sponsorship opportunity awaits!}
Our new supply of GHK kit and track suits have been delivered to keep players warm, and everyone now has their own team strip so can feel an integral part of the squad. (Our thanks to Jane Sim for all her work in orchestrating this as well as to Viv Hastie for organising the catering for our guest teams.) In addition, the club’s new calendars have been flying off the top shelves - even featuring in the Daily Telegraph - so we’ve had to re-order (are our coaches sending copies to each of their clients?!).
The web site has been undergoing new design works and provides a ready link to the main highlights of what’s been happening and what’s planned for each weekend. So, don’t forget to check the weekly updates (http://www.ghkrfc.com/?app=clubmgr&pid=news&cat=3).
We do hope you find these events enjoyable and that your children are getting as much pleasure in playing rugby as we are from coaching them.
Very Merry Christmas.
