Saturday sees Hawks continue the pre season programme with a trip to Hull to play Ionians at Brantingham Park
Hull a city where FC means rugby league and not soccer where The Tigers signify soccer and not rugby union and where two of the oldest rugby league clubs reside
Hull FC formed in 1865 was one of the first clubs to secede from the RFU in 1895 on the vexed principle of "broken time payments" soon to be joined by Hull Kingston Rovers
The strange thing about this was that the principle of broken time payments was seen back then as endeavour to stem full time professionalism whilst in fact it accelerated the change in the northern counties and led to a massive defection that was to weaken the Union code in England for a generation giving birth to Rugby League
But it is not the 13 aside code that Hawks are travelling to play but the Union code and Hull Ionians are our hosts who play in RFU National League North 2 the same league as previous pre season opponents Preston Grasshoppers and Caldy
