Eight players have been added to the 55-strong Scotland under-18 squad which began a two-day training camp at Murrayfield today.

They are lock Mark Anderson (Queen Elizabeth School), hooker David Foote (Dunfermline), centre John Goldie (Dalziel), wing/centre Brendan McGroarty (Greenock Wanderers), scrum-half Sam Ryan (Ellon), flanker Neil Rodger (Haddington), centre Stephen Lahore (High School of Dundee) and wing/full-back Alistair Wright (St Columba’s School).

They were called up after injury and/or illness affected Philip Bland (Hillhead/Jordanhill), Findlay Gillies (Dunbar GS), Stefan Laidlaw (Hawick Wanderers), Michael McNaughton (Robert Gordon’s College), Matthew Heeks (London Irish), Ben Murray (Gala Wanderers), James Murray (Edinburgh Academy) and Fraser Thomson (Galashiels Academy).

The training camp is part of the preparations for the Four Home Unions’ tournament in England and the FIRA/AER tournament in Italy, both in April.
