GHK 48-10 Clydebank
GHK entered into the first league game of 2006 against the travelling Clydebank at Old Anniesland on Saturday with a 100% record so far this season. The GHK team were looking forward to the game and with Clydebank’s website branding the GHK forwards ‘has-beens and wanna-bes’ the home pack were keen to put in a big effort to secure some respect from the Bankies.
Cammy Little started at fly half with Jamie Millan on holiday and it was the Old Anniesland veteran who opened the scoring in the first couple of minutes from a lovely ‘show and go’ from a scrum in the Bankies 22..He added the conversion as well.
Clydebank were playing a ten man game and mauling the ball at every opportunity but solid GHK defence kept the drives at bay but Bankies were awarded a penalty which the scrum half knocked over to make the score 7-3. Stuart Pollock won the restart brilliantly and set up ball in midfield, Stuart Hunter took the ball up again which allowed Pollock to get back to his feet and take a pop off Rand to burst two tackles to sprint over for the second try. GHK started to play some excellent rugby with support running and offloading by Pollock and McKinven and some good drives by Wong and Forbes and when the ball was moved wide Olly Jones just failed to release Love for a simple run in. The ref brought the game back for a penalty in front of the posts which Little knocked over.
Quick hands from Rand after a stolen lineout supported by Jones put Rory Love into a 1v1 situation. The in form winger scorched his man on the outside to go over and round to the back of the posts to make the conversion a formality for Little. GHK then scored another great try punching a gap in midfield and Little fed Love for an easy run in on the right wing. The speedy winger ran to the end of the dead ball area before putting the ball down, the ref gave the try then disallowed it on advice from the touch judge.
The half finished with the Bankies on the attack but they did not manage across the line and the teams turned around at 22-3.
GHK brought on Stewart for his debut at half time and GHK decided to keep the discipline level in the second half,The game was littered with penalties, none of which the players felt were justified but it was GHK who conceded the least and another try was scored from Pollock driving over after good work by the forwards. Little adding the extras.
Bankies came back into action for a spell and scored a well-earned try after some poor GHK tackling, the scrum half adding the conversion.
Pollock then secured his hatrick after a perfectly executed training ground move with Jono Single offloading in midfield to Pollock on his shoulder to go over at the posts, Little with the conversion. GHK then added two further scores, Pollock crashing over after a quick tap penalty from Rand and Stuart Hunter making the most of a Bankies mistake in midfield to go over at the posts, David Ross adding the conversion.
GHK now sit 5points behind Marr but with two games in hand. GHK must maintain their league form this week against Loch Lomond at Bonhill in a tough fixture. The Kick off is 2pm and support is welcomed.
A ‘Rock Night’ will take place in the clubhouse after the game, entry is free and the music is guaranteed to be of a recent era!
