This Saturday sees an interesting cup tie in prospect,when National Div 5 GHK take on the mighty West of Scotland at Burnbrae
It was not always thus as before the advent of Hawks in 1997 GHK and its forerunners Glasgow H.S.F.P and Glasgow High played against West on a regular basis dating back to the 1880s in fact it was a former Glasgow High School pupil T.C Connell who was playing for West at that time helped form Glasgow H.S.F.P.
Prior to 1884 many Glasgow High boys played for West and some like H.M. Napier were capped for Scotland playing out of Hamilton Crescent.Napier along with five Glasgow Accies played in the 1877 match against Ireland --the first Scottish international to be played at 15 aside
The last time they met in a cup tie in the early 1990s West won at Burnbrae
Among the many clashes over the years the game in 1977 saw some array of talent on display in the Glasgow High side
This included;
John Hodgkinson—father of Craig
Jim Robinson immediate past president of GHK
Ewan Cameron-the next chapter at that time of the Cameron dynasty
Norrie Alexander—father of Robbie
The Brothers Hamilton Jim and Kenny-now the Chairman of Hawks
Alan Francis—father of Greg
Dave Jerden now gallery operator
Stewart MacAuley—President of GHK
David Brown purveyor of rugby kit in Dundee
The referee was Alan Reedie whose brother Craig recently helped Seb Coe to mount the successful bid to bring the Olympics to London.
