HAWKS UNDER 15S BEAT AYR

The young Hawks completed their league campaign at Anniesland yesterday with
a 7 try demolition of Ayr.

The kick off was delayed some 15 minutes to allow the S1's complete their
game against Stirling County before the Under 15s used the same pitch for
their game. Thanks to S1 coaches for their assistance in the getting both
games played.

A result of the delay was that rain which threatened became somewhat persistent
with the pitch becoming heavier as the game progressed. Credit must go to
both teams for the rugby that was played, especially Hawks, who yet again
tried to play fifteen man rugby despite the conditions.

Hawks scored four first half tries courtesy of Peter Hall, David Currie,
Kris MacDonald and Jamie Murphy. Kris MacDonald's try being converted by
Euan Robertson. Ayr replied with a converted try.

Half time: Hawks 22 Ayr 7

Hawks made 5 changes at half time but there was no let up in Hawks domination.

Three further tries were scored. Douglas Schreiber came of the bench at half
time to grab a brace, which could have been doubled but for some tremendous
last ditch tackling by Ayr, and Jamie Murphy completed his double and Hawks
scoring.

At 37 - 7 Hawks eased off a bit, but were still in control and were creating
chances, at least two 4 and 5 man overlaps were spurned, which would have
clearly resulted in scores.

Ayr relied mainly on kicking for territory and their pack which competed
well in scrums and at break down. They were eventually rewarded with a converted
try resulting from a driving maul.

Final Score
Hawks 37 Ayr 14

Hawks would like to thank Neil Howie and his coaches and players at Ayr for
their co-operation in finally getting this game played.

Like Hawks, Ayr's main aim is to get the boys playing rugby.

The main loser yesterday must be the un-named Hawks father who chose to go
to Motherwell to watch some group of foreigners from Govan play.

What kind of choice was that ? - 9 tries at Anniesland to 1 goal at Motherwell?

Hawks now have some friendly games arranged, before and after the Glasgow
Cup competition in March.

Our first friendly is at Anniesland on 29 January when we complete a Hawks
- Currie triple play by hosting their under 15s. At the time of writing
I understand that Currie have won the Edinburgh league, beating Heriot's
on the way. This should give our improving side a good test. Kick Off 2.00.
