WATSONIANS' hopes of wrestling the Premier One rugby title from Glasgow Hawks have suffered a major blow with the news that captain Steve Lawrie is likely to miss the rest of the season with a broken leg.
The 21-year-old hooker sustained the injury during Saturday's 13-12 win over Currie and his prolonged absence will undoubtedly be a worry for Cammy Mather's side.
Edinburgh Gunners apprentice Lawrie has been in superb form this season, leading to him being handed the captaincy ahead of more experienced heads.
He has also scored four tries in recent weeks, including one in the win over Hawks, as Watsonians consolidated their second place in the table.
Youngsters Scott Laird, who replaced Lawrie on Saturday, and Irishman Steve Gray are likely to fight it out to replace the Scotland Under-21 cap in the BT Cup tie on Saturday against Gala.
Stand-off James Easton was also injured against Currie, sustaining a foot injury, and is currently on crutches.
Easton is also likely to miss a large part of the remainder of the campaign although the full extent of his injury is not yet known
