HAWKS 2ND XV 22 MELROSE 2ND XV 20

Melrose 2nd V v Hawks 2nds XV

Hawks travelled to Melrose with very young side, only three players over 21. The side was captained by Peter Dalton and included Ricky Munday, on his return to Glasgow.

Melrose began with a bang and were 13 nil up within the first 15 minutes. However Hawks began to get it together, and the young forwards, led by Dalton, began to take control, both in the loose and in lineouts, where Jamie McKinnon and Neil Caddell won plenty of line out ball.
As a result the backs began to make ground and eventually scored two tries, both by Ricky Munday.

In the loose the forwards were making good ground and keeping the pressure on Melrose, with Ross McDonald making good yardage.

In the second half Hawks took the foot of the pedal for five minutes and let Melrose in for another try, with 5minutes to go, to make the score 20 pts to 17 for Melrose.

In steps Peter Dalton with an insipational "few words" to the players.

Hawks won the ball from the kick-off, which was put out to the back. Good passing across the pitch, and a well timed run into the line by full back Sean Murray, allowed him to pass to James Craig who beat his oppisite number to score the winning try.

Very good performance all round by the players, who stuck to the task, and were not put off by the opposition.

Made the journey home a happy won.

Before Saturdays result we were lying 4th in the league, four points behind the leaders. You never know what will happen before the end of the leagus campain. Here's hoping.
