Glasgow Hawks’ apprentice and former Scotland Under-21 back row forward Scott Forrest has been called up into the Scotland 7s squad for the IRB Sevens tournaments in Wellington, New Zealand and Los Angeles, USA next month.
Forrest will replace the injured Rob Dewey who dislocated his shoulder for a second time in his return match for the Edinburgh Gunners against London Wasps in the Heineken Cup last Saturday.
Forrest will make his debut for Scotland 7s in Wellington alongside Edinburgh Gunners’ scrum-half Rory Lawson and Melrose winger Mark Robertson, son of former international Keith.
Coach Rob Moffat said: “Scott has been training well and deserves his chance. He is a dynamic back row forward with good skills and with his attitude these attributes will further develop in this positive environment.”
Scotland 7s winger Andrew Turnbull will travel to Wellington and Los Angeles with the squad while he completes his recovery from a knee injury. Turnbull was selected for the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in March so in a bid to aid his recovery and ready him for that tournament, the Scottish Institute of Sport are funding his trip to the next two IRB tournaments so that he can train with the squad.
In Wellington (3 and 4 February) Scotland face England, Australia and Papua New Guinea before heading to Los Angeles (11 and 12 Febraury) where they will take on Fiji, Argentina and Uruguay.
