GHK v Hillhead Match Preview
This Saturday sees Hillhead/Jordanhill associate club play Hawks associate club at Old Anniesland. GHK host Hillhead in a 2nd top v 2nd bottom match in the latest instalment of National 5 West rugby!
After the ground hosts the mighty Ospreys visit to Glasgow on Friday night, and players such as Henson and Williams are replaced by the classier, silkier and better looking Smeaton and Love, GHK will be looking to continue their unbeaten record with a bonus point win to keep the title race running. Marr travel to Cumbernauld where an unlikely but potential slip up may occur. Auchenkilns is a notoriously tough place to visit.
The visitors, promoted from the B division last season have just 2 wins from 12, a lowly 9 points, and were defeated by 60 points in the last match between these teams. The odds are stacked against the visitors as they were last week when GHK travelled to West and put in a mighty first half performance trailing by just 7. This proves anything can happen and facing a top team is like a cup final for the struggling teams.
This is the third last home match for GHK this season and they will be buyoed by such a brave performance, if not result, last week at West. Still 11 wins from 11 in the league, with 7 games left this is not the time to slip up, as happened last season at a similar stage when the league was blown at Paisley. Their minds will be focussed on the task at hand.
Squad News
With more and more injuries hitting GHK there are no fewer than 5 changes in the team. With Olly Jones and Cammy Little still out, Fraser McKinven and Colin Donald join them on the injury list. The strength and depth GHK have is being tested this weekend then with the return of Stuart Hunter at full back and James Small at centre if anything strengthing the side. In the pack Gordi Reid is replaced by Moray Stewart and the 2 injured back rows replaced by Alex McLemon and back convert JP Higgins.
