HAWKS UNDER 15S LOSE TO CURRIE

The under 15s welcomed Currie to Anniesland yesterday for a"friendly" game.

Currie won the Edinburgh District league and progress to the National stages
in a group including Glasgow runners up, Dalziel. As the young Hawks had
recently defeated Dalziel at Anniesland , this was an eagerly anticipated
fixture.

The young Hawks started as their senior 1st XV had the day before against
Currie, under pressure from kick off and conceding an early score. Unlike
our seniors we the conceded a further 2 tries, one converted prior to half
time.

Currie played the game in Hawks faces, putting them under great pressure
and forcing Hawks into too many mistakes. The Currie defence and tackling
was really impressive and their linking and support when in attack was a
pleasure to watch. Unfortunately Hawks could not respond. The few attacking
positions that were created were quickly stifled by the Currie defence.

Half Time

Glasgow Hawks 0 Currie 17

The second half started as the first ended with Currie in control. A further
2 converted tries gave Currie a 31 point cushion.

Hawks finally got their game together in the final quarter scoring two tries
through Kerr Gossman and Kris MacDonald, with the second being converted
by Euan Robertson. This resulted in a period of Hawks pressure, but unfortunately
no further scores.
Currie scored a final 6th try in the last move of the game.

Final Score

Glasgow Hawks 12 Currie 36

This was a thoroughly merited win by a fine Currie side. Hawks unfortunately
did not compete until it was too late.

We are hopeful of arranging a rematch at Malleny, where we can show our true
form.

The final table for the Glasgow league shows Hawks in joint 4th position
along with West of Scotland.

Some points worth noting:

February 2004 the then S2's couldn't raise a team to fulfil our fixtures.
This year we have a squad of 24 - 10 "new" players - 7 new players; 2 returned
from S1 level and one from long term "injury". It takes time to integrate
so many "new" players and credit must go to Jim Gossman and his other coaches
for all their hard work.

League Stats - Played 14 - Won 7, drew 1, Lost 6
Points scored - 309; Points lost - 238

Only one team prevented us from scoring a try - Greenock (the league winners)
Only one game no points scores - Greenock (away)

This is a team in the making, which will unfortunately disband at the end
of the season due school rugby commitments.
However, we shall quietly continue playing and enjoying our rugby until the
end of the season and to give our all for the HAWKS.
