A shortened review this week as I was looking at the 6 Nations. Unfortunately that will have me look at the only two Premier 1 fixtures involving Glasgow sides this week.
Glasgow Hawks v Biggar
Saturday, 4th February 2006 at Old Anniesland
Hawks now know that 10 points from a possible 25 remaining will make them champions regardless of results elsewhere. Of course it was Biggar who made it all possible with a shock win against Watsonians. Can they do it again? I would be very surprised, it would be a huge achievement to come to Anniesland and win.
The truth is that Hawks have survived their wobble with a convincing win against Currie in the league after the strange cup defeat.
The winning line is in sight and if they can get four tries and a win. It means that they have the chance to beat Damian Reidy's Aberdeen side and win the league on my birthday, the 11th of February.
Prediction: Hawks by 25.
Ayr v Hawick
Saturday, 4th February 2006 at Millbrae
Blah, blah, blah Hawick the momentum team, yawn, heart and soul of Scottish rugby. Against a backdrop of unemployment, hanging onto players difficult… Cliché ridden Hawick arrive having won some games narrowly.
Ayr still maintain a fortress mentality at Millbrae but now miss James '4x4' Noonan at Fly half, following his Demolition Derby at the Ayr clubhouse. He has been key in so many games, I think he will be missed. They will still have a solid defence but, with little Jimmy missing they will miss his kicking.
It breaks my heart but Hawick, should, win this one. Won't weep if they don't.
Prediction: Hawick by 15.
