2xv Stats from Ally Craig

With 2 League games remaining it might prove to be an extra incentive to some to compare some of the stats for the 2nd XV. Mattie Smith holds the honour of becoming the 50th player to turn out this year. Twelve players have been selected on one occasion and 27 have played 3 or fewer games. There have been a hard core of players who have played 10 or more games led by Mark Oatey with 15, Davy Stewart with 14, Niall Cadell/ Murray Wiseman / WillieWong on 13, Danny Hoffman / Ali Mustoe / Ross McDonald / Rob Holdsworth on 12, Mike Whiteford / Jonno Single / Robbie Alexander on 11 games and Sean Murray on 10. Mathematicians among you will notice that this leaves 10 players who have between 4 and 9 appearances. Hidden in among all the stats is a great attitude by players coming down to the 2’s and by players from GHK who have stepped in on a few occasions to help out with problem areas. All have made invaluable contributions to a season which has built momentum gradually.

Points have been distributed fairly evenly throughout players as follows.

Total points scored:

Mike Rainey 46 (1T 10C 6P 1DG) 8 appearances

Andy McPhail 30 (2T 4C 3P 1DG) 8 appearances

Kenny Baillie 29 (2T 10C 3P) 8 appearances

Try scorers:

Stuart Low 7 (4apps)

Danny Hoffman 6 (12 apps)

Mark Oatey 3 (15 apps)

Mike Whiteford 3 (11 apps)

Jonno Single 3 (11 apps)

Of 49 tries scored only 13 have been scored by the forwards, a statement on the expansive game the 2’s play and only 26 of these tries have been converted – maybe the backs should practice their kicking or let the forwards score more often and closer to the posts!
