WARRIORS STRENGTHEN FRONT ROW - CORSAR AND MILLIGAN TURN FULL TIME

Glasgow Warriors are pleased to announce that prop Stuart Corsar has been signed on a full time professional contract. Corsar, a member of the National Rugby Academy (Glasgow), has been with the pro side for the past season on an apprentice contract but has been upgraded to a full time contract until the end of the 2006/07 season.

National Academy Coach (Glasgow) Stephen Gemmell said: “Stuart has really impressed everyone this season with his commitment and dedication since coming on board at Glasgow as an apprentice. In the early part of the season he was thrown in at the deep end having to play in both the Celtic League and Heineken Cup and this contract is just reward for his performances during these matches and his hard work.”

Corsar, who is originally from Inverurie in Aberdeenshire, has represented Scotland at all age group levels and was part of the Scotland U21 side who beat England in last year’s shadow six nations tournament. He moved from Inverurie’s Garioch rugby club to play for Aberdeen GSFP where he came to the attention of district and national age grade selectors. He was originally a member of the National Academy in Caledonia where he was supported by Grampian Institute of Sport before his move to Glasgow as an apprentice.

Corsar added: “It’s been a really good year for me but this is just the start of everything. I know there’s a lot of hard work ahead of me and I’ve had a lot of help along the way from friends and family and support from Town & County in Aberdeen. I’m really looking forward to continuing with Glasgow.”

Stuart Alexander Corsar, a product of the Garioch club in Inverurie, represented Caledonia at under-16, under-18, under-19 and under-20, captaining the district at both under-18 and under-19, and he played also for Scottish Schools at under-16 and Scotland at under-18, under-19, and under-21 levels. His under-19 honours included all four matches in the world championship in France in 2003, when he scored a try against Romania. He made his under-21 debut in the world championship warm-up match against Ireland in May 2004, and he went on to play in four of the five championship games in Scotland. He was again in the national under-21 squad for all five matches in 2005 Six Nations Championship, when Scotland scored victories against Ireland (for the first time), Italy, and England, and he played, too, in the age groups’ subsequent world championship in Mendoza, Argentina. Stuart, a former pupil of Inverurie Academy, took a sports coaching and development course at Aberdeen College and worked as a leisure and gym attendant at Garioch Sports Centre before joining Glasgow Warriors in the summer of 2005. He has also been part of the Scottish Thistles sevens development squad. He is a member of the National Rugby Academy (Glasgow) and the West of Scotland Institute of Sport.

Meanwhile, Glasgow Warriors have also signed front row forward Eric Milligan from BT Premiership club Glasgow Hawks also until the end of the 2006/07 period. Milligan, who has previously featured as front row cover in the Warriors squad for both the Celtic League and Heineken Cup over the past two seasons, was an integral part of the Glasgow Hawks title-winning side, captaining the club in seasons 2004, 05 and 06. He joined Hawks having represented Scotland U21 (v France in 2001) out of the Currie club and has also represented Scotland U19, Scottish Schools and Glasgow Schools. He most recently featured on the bench for the Warriors for their last game against the Ospreys at Old Anniesland

Warriors head coach Hugh Campbell said: “Eric has demonstrated that he is a very skilful front row player with tremendous versatility and leadership skills and he will certainly be an asset to Glasgow Warriors.”
