Paxton puts emphasis on tackling

THE SCOTSMAN REPORTS
ALAN LORIMER

SCOTLAND Under-21 coach Iain Paxton has demanded a big improvement from his players for the Six Nations international against Wales at Newport tonight.

The young Scots lost 37-0 to France at Falkirk last Friday, admittedly after Irish referee George Clancy had effectively ruined the game with his decision to sin-bin two Scotland players within the space of a minute midway through the first half.

"There were areas of the game that were poor - notably our tackling," stressed Paxton. "We missed a lot of tackles, 28 per cent to be precise, and frankly we have to be a lot more accurate in this area."

Scotland Under-21s (v Wales U-21s, at Rodney Parade, 7.10pm ) I Kennedy (Glasgow Hawks); B Addison (Stirling County), B Cairns (Currie), G Law (Border Reivers), L Kibble (Biggar); D Blair (Sale, capt), G Laidlaw (Jed-Forest); R Grant (The Army), S Crombie (Aberdeen GSFP), D Young (Leicester Tigers), J Eddie (Ayr), I Nimmo (Leicester Tigers), S Newlands (Heriot's), A MacDonald (Edinburgh), J Barclay (Glasgow).
