Scotland on Sunday reports
SCOTLAND’S women ground out their second win in the RBS Six Nations Championship, beating Spain 19-3 at Old Anniesland, writes Caroline Houston. The smaller Spanish pack had no answer to the pace and power of the Scots, who ran in two tries on their road to victory.
Paula Chalmers broke the deadlock with an easy penalty kick in the tenth minute and notched up her second 16 minutes later, giving Scotland a six-point lead.
Spain responded with venom but simply couldn’t breach the Scottish defence, who rallied to produce a multi-phase attack. Wing Melanie Christie ran in for the five points to take Scotland’s lead to 11 points at half time.
Spain bagged their first points of the match after 45 minutes when 50th cap winner and captain Ines Etxegibel slotted an easy penalty.
But Scotland dominated for the remainder of the game, with a Chalmers penalty and try giving the Scots the win.
Scotland’s head coach Gil Stevenson said: "We stuck to our game plan and produced a good team performance.
