DEBUT FOR NEW WARRIORS CENTRE

Former England U21 and Bath centre Spencer Davey has been signed to play on permit for Glasgow Warriors for the remainder of the season and will enjoy a debut at one of the hotbeds of European rugby – Thomond Park – as he is named in the Warriors starting line-up to face table-toppers Munster in the Celtic League on Saturday.
Warriors head coach Hugh Campbell said: “Spencer is a strong running, powerful, young centre with a good turn of pace and an ability to score tries. The second half of the Celtic League is crucial for us and we need to take every opportunity to work our way up the league table”.
Davey added: “I’m really looking forward to the new challenge of playing in the Celtic League. When you look at the main European competition, the Heineken Cup, it’s the Celtic League teams that are performing really well, so I’m looking forward to going Ireland and Wales as well as facing the other Scottish teams and playing in some big games. The Warriors are a great bunch of lads and a talented side and it’ll be good to take part in some exciting rugby.”
He has been registered by Aberdeen GSFP and will turn out for the Warriors on permit as allowed by the Celtic League rules.
SPENCER DAVEY Centre. Born: 03.02.83 in Taunton. Height: 1.85m (6ft 1in). Weight: 99kg (15st 2lbs). Spencer Davey first played senior rugby for Bath Rugby in the 2001-02 season and has since made 26 (14 starting, 12 from the bench) appearances in both the English premiership and Heineken Cup competitions. His appearances for England U21 were curtailed through a Lisfrancs (foot ligament) injury and when back to fitness a further acl rupture playing against Benetton Treviso in the Heineken Cup in 2004-05, but now back to full health, he has been demonstrating his exciting strong running and powerful, solid defence once again. He has also represented England at U19 level and has played basketball for South West U16s.

Meanwhile, six Warriors have been released from the Scotland 6 Nations squad for the match on Saturday – five starting (Rory Lamont, Graeme Morrison, Euan Murray, Craig Hamilton and captain Jon Petrie) and one on the bench (Scott Lawson). In addition, Colin Gregor starts at stand-off fresh from Scotland 7s duty at the IRB tournaments in Wellington and Los Angeles and Glasgow Hawks' scrum half Iain Monaghan comes onto the bench to cover for the injured Graeme Beveridge who aggrivated a neck strain during training. The Warriors will be looking to emulate the scoreline against Munster from earlier on this season when they beat the Irish side 32-10 in September.
