University bid for Melrose Sevens trophy

THE University of Orange Free State will bid to retain South Africa's grip on the Melrose Sevens trophy when they compete in the 116th renewal of the tournament at the Greenyards next month.

The South Africans - who are joined by fellow guests Newcastle Falcons, Oxford University and the Scottish Thistles - make their first visit to Melrose and will be looking to follow the success of Stellenbosch University and claim the £5,000 first prize at the CALA Homes-sponsored event on 8 April.
