BLAIR'S 19 POINTS IN SCOTS' VICTORY

Scotland scored their first under-21 victory of the season in beating Ireland 24-21 at Athlone this evening.
David Blair contributed 19 points with a try, a conversion, and four penalty goals, and his fellow inside back, Ben Cairns, won the man of the match award. But it was to the forwards that the Scots owed most for victory. Not the least of that was David Young’s try that gave the Scots the lead at 11-9 at half-time.
Blair’s try was similarly timeous. The stand-off broke through from 20 metres out to put his team a point ahead before he kicked the conversion.
Fergus McFadden and Fionn Carr scored Ireland’s tries. Jonathon Sexton kicked a conversion and three penalty goals.
