GLASGOW HAWKS' Scott Inglis had so much trouble convincing Peter Wright of the Premier title-clinching result - he had to take a picture of the scoreboard and send it to his boss in South Africa.

Wright is in Durban with the Scotland Under-19s and didn't believe his assistant coach when he texted updates throughout the Hawick demolition at Mansfield Park.

He asked for proof so Inglis took a snap with his hi-tech phone and beamed it 4000 miles to his stunned manager.

Wright later said: 'I had faith in the lads winning but I never imagined for a minute I would be hearing about a scoreline like that.'

Stand-in chief Cammy Little refused to take the plaudits and said: 'Wrighty is the man. He's the guy who should accept all the credit that is going.

'The guys have ground out some fantastic results when they have had to - and on this occasion they took their chance to play open, attacking rugby and it was just a pity Peter wasn't here.'

Winger Colin Shaw bagged a five-try haul to underline why the Glasgow pro-team have snapped him up for next season.

But he said: 'It just all went right on the day.

'Scoring five is fantastic but I was just in the right place at the right time to finish what others had started.'

Home coach Kevin Barrie was livid at his team's surrender.

He said: 'The boys just threw in the towel.

'Hawks are a good team but if you let them play they will crush you and that is what happened.

'Losing 80 points is a disgrace, especially at home and I am just very sad that it has happened in my time here.'

Wright's troops only needed to avoid defeat to retain their title but there was never any doubt about the outcome after they'd opened up a quickfire 19-0 lead.

Shaw broke the deadlock then followed up with an even better effort, scooping up his own chip.

Murray Strang displayed exceptional solo skills to claim their third try.

Lock Richie Maxton and stand--off Steve Duffy were next to get in on the act, securing the inevitable bonus point - only to see Cammy Bruce get Hawick off the mark.

But there was no stopping Hawks and they finished the half with a flourish that featured further tries by scrum-half Kenny Sinclair and Shaw, who then completed his treble on the stroke of the interval.

Keith Hedley nipped in for Hawick's second counter but Hawks added another through Mike Adamson.

The rout was completed by Adamson,Shaw (2) and Strang, all of which were converted by Strang, while Ross Armstrong went over for the Greens
