RIVER CITY AND ALL THAT

Stars of NZ TV
A star is born!
In Glasgow, we are used to seeing rugby players on TV - for example, have you ever seen an episode of River City that doesn't feature a Hawks player in the background?
But it turns out that an ex-Warrior who turned out for Hawks now has a new career in TV, as Joe Naufahu is the star of "The Market" on TV2 in New Zealand. The plotline goes as follows (and may sound a little familiar!)

Each weekend, local South Aucklanders head to the Otara markets to buy and sell local goods. Two strong families, one Maori and one Samoan, make their living at the stalls as they have done for decades.

Five years ago, the friendship between the Johnson's and the Limas was broken: one son died in a fight, and another, Sef (Joe Naufahu), went to prison for his murder. Now the old wounds are re-opened with the return of Sef to the market. While Sef's family welcome his return, the dead boy's brother, Mike, has nurtured a hatred of Sef and his family.

The war between the families is about to be turned on its head when the families youngest members meet for the first time. The attraction is instant and the two teenagers struggle to protect their fledgling relationship amidst the chaos of their families' feuding. Can the cycle of revenge be stopped, and if so, are they the ones to do it?

Anyone recognise Romeo and Juliet here?? No doubt, Joe was able to draw on his experiences of life in Glasgow to prepare for his role!
