Ahead of the clash with Wales tomorrow, Scotland Under-19 coach Peter Wright has made seven changes, of which three are positional, to the team that lost 32-11 to England in the opening match of the IRB Under-19 World Championship in Durban, South Africa (1-17 April).
Former Bell Lawrie White Scottish Schools Cup winning winger Jonathon Alston has been called in to replace David McCall while The Borders’ James King moves from stand-off to inside centre in place of Chris Dunlop. Stewart’s Melville’s Jamie Hood fills the scrum-half berth ahead of GHA’s Ali Miller.
The front row is unchanged but Allan Kelly comes in at lock for Greg Scott and in the back row John Barclay switches from blindside flanker to No 8 in place of Calum Forrester and James Taggart fills Barclay’s place on the narrow side.
Edinburgh Academicals’ prop Kyle Traynor has taken over captaincy from John Barclay. On the switch Wright said: “We feel this will help John focus on his own game without the pressure of the captaincy. Kyle is one of our first choice players, who talks well on the field and is very mature for his age. I think he has real potential to lead other sides in the future.”
On the seven changes in the side Wright said: “We’ve made some changes in the midfield that will enable us to move the ball around with both James King and Greig Cottrell involved. The forwards we have brought in will hopefully give us some finishing power and more pace.”
