SRU PRESIDENT TO ACKNOWLEDGE HAWKS ACHIEVEMENT IN FRONT OF LOCAL CHILDREN

This Saturday, 1st April, 3 times champions Glasgow Hawks will be formally presented with the Championship Trophy by SRU President and legend Andy Irvine. The presentation will take place at the conclusion of their final league match of the season against former champions Stirling County at Old Anniesland.

The match will also be attended by a party of 100 pupils and parents from Hyndland Primary school who will have the chance to improve their rugby skills with the help of some of the Hawks coaches and players.

The school pupils will also form a “guard of honour” as the teams take to the pitch for a 3.00pm kick-off.

This is part of the development work undertaken by many of the Hawks volunteers which includes outreach programmes in Knightswood secondary (with the help of Hawks winger Stevie Gordon) and Drumchapel High (with the assistance of Hawks coaches Henry Gray and Glen Woolard).

Hawks secretary Hugh Barrow said: “We are very aware of our responsibility to promote the game within the community and to make playing opportunities readily available for young people. This is just another part of our on-going programme which we hope to strengthen over the next year with the assistance of our sponsors, Glasgow District Council and the SRU.”
