ACADEMY PUPILS' OLYMPIC DREAMS
When the Chancellor of the Exchequer decided to set up Schools Olympics every year until 2012, he hit upon an idea that is likely to be more popular than tax rises.
Two Academy pupils were interviewed after the Budget for BBC Radio 1Xtra news and asked for their reactions. Would the thought of an Olympic games in Glasgow inspire all-round athletes Kay Bartlett and Andrew Kraszewski to train harder? Would they enjoy the challenge? They were extremely positive about the effects on them and the benefits for their sports.
Both Kay and Andrew did well under the pressure of a live radio broadcast, something that may be almost as important to their future as Mr Brown's proposal. After all, everyone knows that the art of the post-match interview is one of the most potent weapons in the athlete's armoury!
