The start of the High School's fifth rugby and hockey tour to British
Columbia was slightly delayed at Heathrow but it is now up and running at
full speed. On the pitch the tour got of to an excellent start yesterday
with both the rugby and hockey teams winning against Magee Secondary School.
The boys played at Connaught Park, home of the Meralomas Club and played
some excellent rugby. Magee were a big and well drilled side who had some
pacy runners out wide. However, good defence and quick handling ensured
that The High School ran away to a 29-0 half time lead. After the break we
fell asleep and conceded 3 tries as Magee narrowed the gap to 29-17. With
the introduction of all the subs at various stages we then scored 4 more
tries to give a final score line of 51-17. This was probably a bit
flattering to ourselves and probably not what we expected when we watched
the opposition go through their warm up. Rory McCormick was awarded the
man of the match award, but in reality this could have been any number of
half a dozen High School players.

The sights of Stanley Park have been visited on bike or roller blades by
most of the tour party and today we are heading to the Capillano
suspension bridge and for a cable ride up Grouse Mountain. We leave
Vancouver on Saturday and head for Victoria to take part in the St
Michaels University School Rugby and Hockey festival.
