Peter's Troops lose to Wales

Scotland U19 5, Wales U19 35

Scotland Under 19 tasted defeat in Dubai for the second time in the IRB U19 World Championship but their performance was much improved from the encounter against Australia four days ago (Wednesday 5 April).

Going in at half-time 28-0 down, the Scots rallied, stringing together 14 phases of play within 10 meters of the Welsh line, but to no avail.

Gala’s Roddy Grant was sin-binned for coming in at the side of the ruck which Wales duly exploited, scoring their only try of the second half.

Moments later, Stewart’s Melville winger Colin Goudie clinched the first try for the Scots. Dundee HSFP stand-off and Scotland U19 captain Cameron Ferguson pouched a high ball, setting Goudie off on a piercing run through the Welsh defence. Ferguson failed to convert.

Scotland’s third and final pool game of the IRB Under 19 World Championship is against Japan on Thursday 17 April at Sharjah Wanderers (kick-off 6pm local time, 3pm BST)
