The High School of Glasgow 22 Shawnigan Lake School 14
The High School team began their second game on tour against a Shawnigan Lake School who looked a pretty strong and physical side. However, Euan Scott ghosted over for a try after 4 minutes. Unfortunately Euan was to leave the field soon after due to an injury to his knee. The High School defence stood firm until the 28th minute when Shawnigan scored under the posts and duly converted to lead 7-5. On the stroke of half time Andrew Melville managed to sneak over and make the score 10-7 to High School at half time.
No sooner had the second half started, Andrew scored again to make the score 15-7. Shawnigan began to feel the wrath of the referee and had a player sin binned. During this time The High School were unable to make the numerical advantage count and in fact lost the services of Michael Borthwick to a bad leg injury. Aubrey Horton crossed for a try which was converted by Craig Bennie after 35 minutes of the second half. Excellent defence towards the end of the game ensured The High School finished on top, but the constant pressure of making tackles on much bigger opponents eventually took its toll in the 9th minute of injury time as Shawnigan scored a converted try to make the final score of 22-14.
Hopefully the injuries to Euan and Michael will heel quickly and the other bumps and bruises picked up by the rest of the team in a heroic defensive performance will ease by the next game against St. Michaels University School on Tuesday.
The High School of Glasgow 1 Glenlyon Norfolk School 0
The girls had an earlier start on the artificial at the University of Victoria against Glenlyon Norfolk School from Victoria. They found it difficult to adapt to the pitch which was a bit more bouncy than the surface at Anniesland. The first half was an even affair with the defences coming out on top with the score being 0-0. In the second half, High School had more of the territory but were unable to find the killer touch. Christie Fraser, Nina Syme and Charlotte Sinclair all did well up front and Rachel Osborne was as solid as a rock in defence. Eventually all of the High School pressure told and Alex Stuart scored from a penalty corner to make the score 1-0. The last few minutes seemed to last forever as GNS attacked but the defence held strong and the girls secured a 1-0 victory.
