Newcastle complete hat-trick
ATHOLL INNES
NEWCASTLE Falcons put their weight behind the Borders sevens after collecting their third trophy in three weeks on Saturday.
Falcons added the Langholm cup to the Melrose and Hawick trophies with a 36-12 win over a gallant Jed-Forest side in the final, and the player of the tournament, Ollie Phillips, said: "I did not realise that there was a big Scotland circuit. To play in sevens like this is just awesome."
It was skipper Eni Gesindi's final sevens for Falcons as he leaves the club after five years. "I would love to continue playing rugby, but I have not yet made my decision," he said.
Jed were again the best of the other sides in the tournament, but despite tries from Jamie McCraw and Roy McFarlane, Falcons carried too much power and pace with scores from Cameron Johnston (2), Andrew Skeen (2), Phillips and Gesindi.
