CALDY TOUR REPORT

GHK Tour 2006 ? Born for Bredders

A group of GHK touring legends gathered at Old Anniesland on Friday morning (some more smartly dressed than others) to begin the journey to first Bredbury Hall near Manchester for Friday fun then onto Caldy RFC near Liverpool for what most feared about the weekend ahead, a game of rugby.

Bredbury Hall lived up to expectations with numerous scantily clad women/OAP?s but the notorious strict doormen were not as scary as first thought. The partying went on long into the night with some tremendous karaoke from Coach Rand and JP ?see it off? Higgins assisting the doormen in helping any undesirables leave. But it was not just the Neds that left unhappy with a Scotsman (honorary Scotsman anyway) but an unfortunate lady who despite her attractive appearance must have had something mentally wrong as the chat up manoeuvre of projectile vomiting by an extra from Lord of the Rings did not seem to reel her in.

The usual GHK faithful were on the trip but a notable inclusion to the touring party was Stuart ?Speedy the Interceptor? Orr who used to play at Old Anniesland but is now at West. The fact that Speedy was injured was only brought to the attention of the group on game day led to the question ?What the hell is he doing here!??, a question that Fraser McKinven cried himself to sleep thinking on Saturday night. With a number of injured tourists, the playing squad was down to 15 but with the late arrival of former Vod Wod doorman Benji and the late inclusion of injured 7s specialist Christophe ?next season!? Breckinridge meant at least two subs warmed the bench.

The game itself was played in fantastic spirit with some incredible performances from some of the more inebriated members of the team with Disco ?007? Al and JP ?see it off? Higgins the outstanding pair with Disco snagging a brace of tries. Other scores came from Nick Cram and Ali ?www.beautifulpeople.net? Smeaton who ran all of 1m for an interception try. Caldy too played some good rugby and scored some tremendous tries, one despite a massive defensive effort from David Ross and another from a lovely floated pass by Gordy Reid both of which Coach Rand will not be happy about. That sorted of play hadn?t been seen at Caldy since Cammy ?clittle? Little played for GHK 7s that defeated Fiji back in the day, have you not heard that story???

Wing Commander Jones introduced himself to the cricket team, which led to an impromptu game between GHK and Cadly. Caldy may have won the rugby, just, with a score line of 34-31 but GHK won the modified cricket game with Christophe ?next season!? Breckinridge moving quicker than during the rugby to take two lovely catches.

All the boys appreciated the hotel hospitality in Caldy and the owner was part of the GHK celebrations that carried on long into the night, which Gordy Reid, on behalf of the committee, personally thanked him for.

The long bus journey back up to Glasgow began with attempting to purchase every moveable alcohol container from Sainsbury?s and a 5mile an hour tour of Liverpool city centre where we managed to pass the home of Everton FC where JP ?see it off? Higgins decided to tell us all his thoughts on football for the first time on tour. The tour court saw some interesting swimwear modelling and fitness manoeuvres as well as another projectile vomiting incident from the same ?middle earth inhabitant? and a big thank you to tour organisers Wing Commander Jones, Coach Rand and Champy Tours.

Next tour Colorado USA?????
