Congratulations to Davie who has been selected for the coaching course detailed below. This adds to the current high level of coaching on offer at Anniesland.

GHK Head Coach David Ross has been accepted to undertake the United Kingdom Coaching Certificate (UKCC) Level 3 course at Loughbourgh University. The course will be run by the Rugby Football Union at the Universities’ state of the art sports facilities over three weekend long sessions, the first of which takes place in May.

The course is the first in Britain open to the general public, in which David had to undergo a selection process to be accepted. “I had to complete and send in an application which included my Coaching CV and my personal CV then had to cross my fingers and wait for a response. Only a few people in the UK have actually gained this qualification, most of whom work for the RFU, WRU or SRU and I think I will be one of only 5 in Scotland to undertake the course which is a massive deal for me”. “My aspirations lie in professional rugby and to gain this qualification at the age of 23 is a big step my bid to get into the professional set up as soon as possible. Along with my work as a Sport Development Officer I hope to get there sooner rather than later!”

The course is part of the new UKCC structure of which rugby is the sport leading the way in rolling out the program. However Scottish Rugby is slightly behind the English Rugby Union in the development of the course thus David is travelling across the boarder. “This qualification will bring me level with many premiership club coaches and this will hopefully springboard GHK’s climb up the national leagues and achieve the goal of our development plan – to be playing National 1/Premier 3 rugby within 5/6 years.

The course is a yearlong study with weekends in May/July 2006 and April 2007. David is extremely excited about the prospect of gaining the qualification that will benefit not only his own aspirations in rugby but also that of GHK RFC and developing young players generally at Anniesland.
