SCOTLAND RING CHANGES FOR SECOND SOUTH AFRICA TEST
Posted: 14/Jun/06
Scotland have made six changes and one positional switch for Saturday’s second and final Test against South Africa in Port Elizabeth.
Introduced to the team that started last week’s 16-36 loss to the Springboks in Durban are wing Simon Webster, stand-off Gordon Ross, hooker Dougie Hall, prop Craig Smith, lock Alastair Kellock and No 8 Jon Petrie, with Allister Hogg moving from that berth to openside flanker.
The players come in for Sean Lamont, Dan Parks, Scott Lawson, Bruce Douglas, Scott Murray and Donnie Macfadyen respectively.
Meanwhile on the bench coach Frank Hadden has opted for five forwards and two backs.
Hadden explained the rationale behind his selection. “Our first priority is to win the Test match this weekend and there are also things we need to look at from the World Cup perspective, such as the blend of the side and what individuals can do.
“Last week’s group had the opportunity to do something special. Now that chance falls to the team for this week.”
Lamont was available for selection but Hadden decided not to include him following the leg injury he sustained at the ABSA Stadium, while the selection of his pack reflects a desire to stand “toe to toe” with the physicality of the Springboks.
The selection, as Scotland seek their first win against South Africa on foreign soil, added to today’s 25th birthday celebrations for Alastair Kellock.
