The SRU say Glasgow wil not be playing at Scotstoun
The SRU today announced it does not plan to use the proposed re-developed Scotstoun Stadium as a future base for Glasgow Rugby and the home ground for the Glasgow Warriors professional rugby team.
The soon to be revamped Scotstoun facility had been considered, amongst others, as a possible future venue for the club, as well as a base for training and community rugby.

However Scottish Rugby's Chief Executive Gordon McKie confirmed today that the Scottish Rugby Executive Board has decided the Scotstoun option is no longer viable.

"We are in the process of considering all funding options for our three pro teams, including entering into possible joint venture partnerships. At this critical time the details of what we were being asked to commit to in regard to Scotstoun, does not stack up for us.

"We were asked by Glasgow City Council to commit to a stadium which wouldn't be available until around 2009, when the redevelopment of the ground would be complete.

"We cannot provide this length of commitment until the future shape of Scottish professional rugby is clearer.

"In addition, whilst Scotstoun looks like being a great location once re-developed, it carries a much higher price tag than our current set up in Glasgow. We simply cannot commit to being the anchor tenant and I have informed Glasgow City Council today of the Board’s decision."

"There have been some misleading comments in the press stating that Glasgow Warriors would be based at Scotstoun when the redevelopment was completed in three years time. No such agreement was made.

"Glasgow City Council's vision for Scotstoun looked an exciting prospect but sadly it's not one that we could commit to with the current situation regarding our pro teams."
