Scottish Rugby today announced the club fixtures for the forthcoming 2006-07 season. In a change from last season, Premier One will drop down to just ten teams, with Premiers Two and Three, plus the National Leagues One, Two and Three, each having 12 teams.
However in the following season, this is set to change, as clubs attending the Annual General Meeting of Scottish Rugby last Friday voted to increase the number of teams in Premier One back to twelve teams for 2007-2008.
To permit Premier One to return to twelve teams in 2007-08, there will be one team relegated and three teams promoted between P1 and P2. Between P2 and P3 there will also be one team relegated and three teams promoted. The same will happen between P3 and National League One and also between N1 and N2, and N2 and N3. A slightly different situation then occurs when there will be one team relegated from N3 and three teams will be promoted from the three Regional N4 Leagues. Promotion and relegation between the Regional Leagues will be unchanged.
In the second half of the season, Premier One clubs will play in a Super Cup competition. They will be split into two pools of five playing each other once, with the winners of each pool contesting the final.
The draw for the first round of the National Cup will be made on Thursday 6th July.
