Search for new head coach begins again at Edinburgh

THE SCOTSMAN REPORTS
DUNCAN SMITH

THE search for a new head coach for Edinburgh has started again after the position was re-advertised following the new franchise's decision to break with the short-list of two identified by the Scottish Rugby Union.

Shortly after the Carruthers brothers, Bob and Alex, took control of the capital outfit earlier in the month in a franchise arrangement, Henry Edwards was appointed temporary head coach.

Yesterday the pro team's new owners, Edinburgh Rugby Ltd, posted an advertisement on the SRU website and invited previous applicants to apply.

"We are looking for a head coach to lead the team into their forthcoming Heineken Cup and Magners Celtic League campaigns and to develop a playing strategy for the team which will deliver sustained long term performance improvement," said the notice. "Applicants must be able to demonstrate a track record of performance coaching at the professional level within rugby together with an understanding of the requirements of running a professional rugby team.

"Strong motivational and leadership skills as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential."

Those who applied previously may re-apply "if interested".

Unlike the SRU advertisement which followed the departure of Todd Blackadder at the end of last season there is no specification of candidates needing to have previous head coach experience.
