HAWKS 2XV VGHK

Hawk 2nd xv beat GHK by 7 tries to 4 tries in a training match at Old Anniesland tonight
Hawks 2nd XV and GHK just about managed to scrape together two teams of players last night for a training game at Old Anniesland. The players on show put on a tremendous feast of fast attacking rugby that finished in favour of the Hawks with a try count of 7-4.

Both sides had many players playing out of position and scrums had to go uncontested in the final 20mins due to injuries of front 5 forwards and GHK finishing the game with 3scrum half’s playing in the back row (Cammy Little said he is thinking of a permanent positional switch).

Hawks first XV team manager and GHK director of rugby Scotty Ingles even had a run around to ensure the average age of the front row was trebled and with a new player turning up 5mins before kick-off, was thrown into the game and played extremely well for Hawks 2s.

Hawks first XV captain Steven Duffy also got a run in the first period after returning from holiday, which gave the edge to Hawks and with Steven Kidd along side him in the centre, the Hawks midfield defence was extremely solid.

GHK had Jaimie Millan back at standoff, which secured GHK’s defence, Chas McFarlane returned scrumhalf and new Canadian import Matt Barthe finally got a run out after being injured in training 2weeks ago.

Scorers for the Hawks included Sean Murray (3), Rory Love (2), Murray Wiseman and someone else whom I have forgotten (sorry)

GHK scorers were Olly Jones, Cammy Little, Ali Smeaton and another person whom I’ve forgotten (really should pay more attention)

The game was played at a fast pace with both teams looking to use the ball and play expansive rugby. The surprising numbers in the crowd were treated to a feast of Champagne rugby (notable occasions were Olly Jones and Aubery Horton in the same move throwing a behind the back one handed pass and one handed spin pass respectively and Chris Breckinridge with a no look one handed inside flick).

The already strong ties between the two teams increased with the game being played in great spirit and newfound respect at each others performance was gained.

Hawks 2s first league game of the season takes place on Saturday away to Heriots and GHK will be training at Old Anniesland at 12pm
