A 20-0 lead after 19 minutes was not enough for Glasgow this evening. They lost to Newport Gwent Dragons by 23-24 at Hughenden, though only to a last-kick penalty goal by Ceri Sweeney.
Sam Pinder and Graeme Morrison scored Glasgow’s early tries. Dan Parks kicked two conversions and two penalty goals, and late in the game a penalty by replacement Colin Gregor seemed to have given Glasgow victory at 23-21. Sweeney then missed a penalty before his saving effort.
Tries by Sweeney and Aled Brew hauled Dragons back to 12-20 at half-time. Sweeney converted the second of those, and in the second half he cut back Glasgow’s lead to two points with a couple of penalty goals before a Mike Hercus drop goal in 70 minutes put Dragons ahead for the first time in the match.
