Glasgow Under 15 League Division 1
West of Scotland, 0 – Glasgow Hawks, 60
In their first match of the season the young Hawks picked up from where they left off last year. Within 30 secs of KO Robbie Nicholson finished off some fine handling after Hawks received the kick to go over for the first of 3 fine scores by him. As well as taking on the kicking duties Chris Rhodes scored a fine try shortly after. It was Max Martins turn next to touch down for the first of 2 tries by him and Robbie scored his second to ensure a 26-0 lead at half time.
It was more of the same in the second half, Jonny Byrne-Leitch and Rory Taylor both added their names to the score sheet and the individual try of the day came from one of our more mobile props Kenny McGowan who ran the best part of 70 metres, bodies trailing in his wake, to score under the posts(dragging one poor West boy over with him).
The rules dictate that at under 15 level if 60 points are scored the game must be brought to a halt and so it was, some 5 mins shy of the full 60.
This was a fine squad performance. The handling in the backs was a little rusty to start with and a couple of the boys were suffering from white line fever in this try fest(perhaps a little picky of me considering the result). The pack were solid, winning just about everything on there own ball and the oppositions!
Not meaning to take anything away from the victory but the boys realise that there will be tougher encounters ahead and that this is only the start- but what a start. Well done boys.
Next Sunday is our first home match of the year and we will be playing GHA at Accies ground with a 2:00pm KO. If you want to be entertained by a truly talented group of boys please feel free to come along and spectate, I am sure you wont be disappointed.
