Glasgow Hawks Under 15s, 38 – GHA Under 15s, 0
On a glorious Sunday afternoon we played our first home game of the season on the main pitch at New Anniesland. The weather was matched by the quality of rugby on display.
Our squad this year now has 26 members. We have very sadly lost Joff Stenhouse because of age restrictions, however 2 new players have joined us: Quintin Liao in the backs and Stephen Dickson in the forwards.
Within 3 mins of the KO Hawks were ahead thanks to a well struck penalty by Chris Rhodes. The boys knew that this was going to be a different proposition from last week and there were a number of tough exchanges in the opening 10 mins and the game was evenly balanced when Quintin Liao scored a lovely try in 12 mins in the corner. The next score was a forward drive with touch down by our captain Jamie Swanson. Chris Rhodes converted. Another forward effort at the end of the 1st half saw Kenny McGowan cross the line only for the ref to say that he had been held up.
The 2nd half was only 3 mins old when Chris slotted another penalty. Then Patrick Bell hit a cracking kick for Finn Campbell-Young to chase. Finn gathered beautifully and went over for a fine score. The next score started with another fine strike against the head from Cammy Crozier and Patrick Bell at stand off produced a bit of magic and ran in from the 22 for another wonderful try.
It wasn’t over. Chris Rhodes took a crash ball in mid field and powered his way over. Finally Kenny McGowan wasn’t to be outdone and he finished off the scoring with his 2nd try in 2 weeks.
Another fine performance enjoyed by a healthy crowd on a beautiful afternoon. All that and we had a great BBQ catered by Kenny Barron from the Academy. Thanks to him and his staff.
Next week we travel to Cumnock. Good luck boys!
