BORDER BACKING FOR NATIONAL CUP
Posted: 12/Sep/06
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Border League clubs have committed to remain in Scotland's national knockout competition this season.

There follows a statement issued by the Border League this afternoon.

"Following a meeting of Border League clubs at Jedburgh on Monday, it was unanimously agreed that it would be inappropriate at this time for clubs to withdraw from National Cup competition in season 2006/2007.

"However, the clubs were unanimous in their concern that in its current format the National Cup competition is not realising its fullest potential, in growing the game both nationally and, equally important, locally. Growing the game in the community is the overriding concern of all Border League clubs, who wish to see every possible avenue explored in order to achieve this goal.

"The Border League clubs feel a strong community and nationally integrated competition would prove an ideal stimulus. With this in mind the clubs look forward to meeting with and working through the appropriate SRU governance and staffing structures, to open up a dialogue on the subject to achieve a conclusion that will benefit the community game throughout Scotland."
