BOBBY DUNLOP

A short appreciation by Scott Inglis

On Saturday there will be a minute's silence for the Honorary
President of GHK , Bobby Dunlop, before the Hawks and GHK games.

Players might wonder why clubs do this especially when they might not
know the person concerned and are desperate to get started with the
game. Bobby would have understood and agreed! The answer is respect.
Respect for someone who dedicated many years of his life to the game
we love.

At around the same age of many of our current squads, Bobby was
fighting with the Highland Light Infantry on the bloody battlefields
of Europe before being posted to the heat of Palestine. On his
return he worked as a PE teacher then Deputy Head in schools like
Garthamlock, High School and Knightswood. During this time Bobby
introduced rugby to innumerable boys with a mixture of sound
knowledge and unbridled enthusiasm. As a stalwart of the Scottish
Schools Athletics Association his time and effort as a volunteer
continued his impact on sport in the West of Scotland and beyond.

It is for these reasons plus the fact that Bobby was an all round
gentleman and keen supporter at Hawks and GHK games that we will
think of him tomorrow at 3pm .
