COMPETITIONS COMMISSION GETS UNDERWAY

Scottish Rugby’s Competitions Commission meets for the first time tomorrow (Tuesday 26 September).

The Commission will be looking at the structure of the league and cup competitions, the structure of the season and competition rules.

It was set-up following a recommendation from Scottish Rugby’s working party on governance.

Richard McGhee, the SRU’s Rugby Services Manager, said the commission would have an advisory role but that it was important that it gave a voice to all sections of the rugby community as plans for the future shape of domestic competition are formulated.

He added that an independent chair is still being sought for the Commission, while the Commission members may seek to call on other individuals during their deliberations.

The Commission will comprise: Terence Froud (Hawick), Ray Mountford (Stirling County), Peter Laverie (Cartha Queen’s Park), Donald Naysmith (Livingston), Barry Sinclair (Portobello and Scottish Universities), Dougie Cruickshank (Kinross), Gordon Cox (Moray and SRU Council), Charlie Johnstone (Strathendrick), John McHarg (Irvine), Dougie Muir (West of Scotland Rugby Referees’ Society), Beth Dickens (SWRU) and Glen Stirling (Second XV League).
