Glasgow Hawks U 15s,48 – Marr U15s, 15
The last time the boys went into a match displaying this attitude they lost! Despite the score line the first half was a very scrappy affair with an occasional flash of brilliance. Marr really made a game of it and well done to them.
After 3 mins Max Martin opened the scoring and Chris Rhodes converted. 5 mins later Finn Campbell-Young made a great break and Rory Taylor made the supporting run and took the pass to score. Another try came 8 mins later when Robbie Nicholson went in under the posts and chris converted again. Finn then scored an excellent try to round off a very good 1st half display from him.
Then came the wake up call, poor defending from the hawks led to the 1st try from Marr (the 1st conceded this season). This gave the Marr boys confidence and after sustained forward pressure on their part they crossed for their second try just before half time.
Half time 26 – 10.
I am not quite sure what Gregor and Logan said to them at half time, but it worked! Within 3 minutes of the KO Patrick Bell made a fantastic side step and lost his man and that gave him the momentum to brush past several players before touching down. A full 60 metre run. Chris converted.
The forward battle had been tough, however we started to edge it. Cammy Crozier struck against the head and sent the backs flying and Quintin Liao went over in the corner. Shortly after Marr gained turnover ball in the loose and looked to be threatening until Sean McAlindon put in a stormer of a tackle which reversed the momentum, we stole and Rory Taylor finished off with another score. To emphasise the growing forward confidence Ian Parry (prop) finished off a fine forward move.
There was still indiscipline by the boys. They gave away 10 metres on 3 separate occasions. A final loss of concentration gave away a penalty 8 metres out. We didn’t retreat and a further penalty was given from which a forward rush took Marr over for a score in the final minute.
All in all a good result but (despite the scoreline) a lot to work on.
