GLASGOW Hawks coach David Wilson was club captain when they swept all before them in their inaugural season to win the Scottish Cup, so it was forgivable that a catch came into his throat after the match when he said: "I told them all before the game that a lot of players in the last ten years have worn the Hawks jersey with pride and with passion." He got his response.

Right from the start Hawks moved the ball, after a Currie knock-on, to the other end of the park to set up the opening score. Referee Rob Dickson's feel for the game meant he allowed that play to run when initially Hawks seemed to be going nowhere.

That Hawks then used Currie's piece de resistance - the driven maul - to open the scoring further undermined the previously undefeated league leaders.

It was to get worse. With every one of the home pack a hero, two further tries plus a brace each of penalties and conversions meant that Currie turned 25-0 adrift.

Hawks stand-off Mikey Adamson - 'Scotland's Michalak' according to his coach - showed Hawks had remembered how to go for the jugular with a hat-trick of tries in the final eight minutes.

Currie coach Ally Donaldson said: "It shouldn't be difficult to sort out what went wrong; little was right."
