Jonny Mitchell Fund

Dear All

Apologies for what appears to be a mass mailing but I'm sure you'll understand when I tell you more. I also know that each of you has a passion for helping other less fortunate than ourselves.

Most of you will know that over the past seven years I have been heavily involved with a charity called "Hearts and Balls" which aims to help, in the main, rugby players who have suffered catastrophic injuries – in other words, are paralysed.

On September 10th 2005 Jonny Mitchell suffered a broken neck as a result of a freak accident on the rugby field. Jonny is in a wheelchair and has just moved into a new, adapted, house, with his wife, Joanne, and two children.

Jonny has had great support from the local and wider community and has had a tremendous team working on fund raising specifically for him. The team have run a number of events.

On Friday 24th November Jonny's team will run a major benefit dinner for Jonny – the last event for the foreseeable few months in terms of fund raising for Jonny.

Attached are details of that dinner. If you can help in anyway then please contact Jim Littlefair.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks, in advance, for any help you can provide.

Best wishes

John Evans

Sportsman’s Dinner - Friday 24th November 2006

Brunton Hall, Musselburgh

Early in October, Jonny will be discharged from the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow having spent some thirteen months rehabilitating from the significant injury he suffered when Captaining North Berwick RFC against Hawick Linden on 10th September 2005. He remains paralysed from the neck down although he has some movement in his shoulders which allow him some control over his hands. Although the future will be very different from that considered prior to his injury, he remains in positive spirits and his wife and two children are impatient for his homecoming!

The above event has been organised as the final fund-raiser for 2006 and the key note speaker will be British Lion, Fergus Slattery. The evening will have an Australian theme as Scotland take on the Wallabies on Saturday 25th November. Naturally, it is hoped that it will raise a significant amount for the Appeal.

I would like to invite you to host a table at the dinner. Tables seat ten and are priced at £650 to include pre dinner drinks and I believe it would be an ideal way to entertain some of your clients.

If you have other friends or business associates who you believe might enjoy an evening such as this please feel at liberty to duplicate and forward this letter.

I will be in touch in the near future to take any questions that you may have alternatively, feel free to call me.

Yours in rugby
