Heriot's in double delight
GARETH BLACK AT OLD ANNIESLAND
Glasgow Hawks 15
Heriot's 22
HERIOT'S may have ended the day a further point adrift of leaders Currie, but the Goldenacre side confirmed they are becoming increasingly credible contenders for the Premiership title.
A solid performance produced their third straight win and enabled Bob McKillop's men to complete a rare double over the champions, having also beaten them on the opening day of the season.
The coach was delighted with the outcome, saying: "We are very pleased because there are not many teams that come to Anniesland and win. I still think that regardless of where they are in the league, Hawks are one of the strongest teams." The hosts had opened the scoring with a penalty by Mike Adamson before Heriot's struck with tries from James Thompson and Apolosi Satala, the latter converted by Graham Wilson. Hawks hit back with a fine solo score from Steve Gordon, with Murray Strang converting, but Wilson landed a penalty to give Heriot's a 15-10 lead at the break.
The score remained until the 70th minute when Satala claimed his second try although Heriot's never completely shook off Hawks, who secured a bonus point when Ewan Smith touched down in the final minute.
