Mark Robertson (Melrose) was suspended for one week by the SRU Discipline Panel at its meeting last night after he was sent off for verbal abuse of referee Andy Ireland in the Premiership Division 1 match between Glasgow Hawks and Melrose at Old Anniesland on Saturday 21 October.

Robertson, an apprentice with Border Reivers and a member of the Scotland 7s squad, is now therefore free to play.

The panel upheld the red card and determined it was a “lower-end” offence. The panel also considered all the evidence presented at the hearing, including that the player had apologised to the referee for his conduct.
