Yesterday at Myreside, Scott Inglis and Kenny Hamilton played for the 2nd XV in the front row. I don't want to embarrass either by telling everyone their respective ages, but it would be fair to say that both probably thought their playing days were behind them several years/decades ago. Having said that, Kenny probably still reckons he's in with a shout of the Melrose 7s squad!
As there were a number of call-offs this week, both were asked if they could play and there were about 35 players who were grateful they did. If they hadn't played then the 2nd XV game would have been cancelled but thankfully the game went ahead as scheduled.
It goes to show that rugby clubs, big and small, need club men who will literally put their bodies on the line in order to keep things going and Scottie and Kenny did just that. I would also like to say that both played pretty well against a big Watsonians pack.
Many, many thanks to both of them.
