HAWKS UNDER 15S TOP LEAGUE

Dalziel U 15s, 0 – Glasgow Hawks U 15s, 60

Readers of my reports will know that I keep harping on about how fortunate we are in the U 15s with the strength in depth of our pool. We have 28 members in our squad and with injuries and other reasons we only had 19 of the squad available for selection on Sunday and they did us proud!

Before giving the detail of the game and for the record, we had scored 60 points with 20 mins of playing time left. That is the max allowed at U 15 level. The Dalziel coaches however wanted to continue and so we played for afurther 10 mins amassing a total of 86 points – 14 tries and 8 conversions.

The game started more evenly than the scoreline suggests and for the first 5 mins it was a well contested affair. Aidan McCall-Hagan ran in the 1 st of 2 tries after 5 mins and 4 mins later Sean McAlinden drove over to score. Jonny Byrne-Leitch scored a couple before half time with Rory Taylor, Finn Campbell-Young, Patrick Bell and Rory Stewart all scoring before half time. The Dalziel boys were a little demoralised by the 50-0 half time score but credit to them for coming out and sticking to their task in the 2 nd period.

Robbie Nicholson (despite not being 100% fit) came off the bench to score a couple of tries in the 2nd half, Aiden and Rory taylor also added to their personal tallies. Chris Rhodes and Patrick Bell shared the kicking duties throughout and chris also bagged himself a try. Andy Homer was another to come off the bench and score 2, his first from a particularly powerful solo run.

We remain top of the Glasgow league and on course for the play offs against the rest of Scotland in February. That will be another story doubtless, not least because the organisers(who are based in the east surprisingly) have fixed 2 of the dates for those matches for the schools Feb week when most of our boys are on holiday. I am working on that and have raised the matter already with our local rep however I fear that we will not get a sympathetic hearing. All that and if we do actually get to the final it is to be played on Easter Sunday! It all makes you wonder!

Our penultimate game in the Glasgow league is away on Sunday to Cumnock, KO 2:00pm.
