Grief was the spur for Hawks

THE SCOTSMAN REPORTS
GARETH BLACK AT OLD ANNIESLAND

Glasgow Hawks 34
Aberdeen GSFP 7

HAWKS coach Davie Wilson was brimming with mixed emotions as he admitted that Aberdeen had come calling at the wrong time.

The midweek sudden death of former home club stand-off Craig Hodgkinson not only prompted the biggest crowd of the season to flock to Old Anniesland, it spurred the team on to arguably the most potent performance of their faltering Premiership campaign.

There was a minute's silence in memory of Royal Marine Hodgkinson, and Wilson said: "It has been a very difficult week for us. But we have stuck together as a club and I think that was reflected in the performance."

Aberdeen coach Damien Reidy couldn't disguise his frustrations as he headed north. "We were beaten by a better side," was all the Australian would say.

Hawick flanker John Fitzpatrick led the charge with two touchdowns, the other coming from Sinclair, Cox and Gavin Mories. Mike Adamson kicked the rest of their tally. Former local boy Grant Strang snapped up the Aberdeen try.
