Posted: 16/Nov/06

On Monday 27 November, the Scotland 7s squad will depart for the first two legs of the IRB Sevens World Series to Dubai and George, which will ultimately bring them back home to Scotland on 1-2 June for the final leg, which is being staged at Murrayfield.

The Scotland 7s squad, which is made up of fulltime National Academy players, has now been selected for the first two tournaments in Dubai (UAE) and George (South Africa) and Border Reivers and Hawick No. 8 Scott Forrest will captain the team.

Looking ahead to the opening two tournaments, Scotland 7s head coach Stephen Gemmell said: “The Sevens World Series is going to be a massive challenge for us but it will be exciting to see young Scottish talent from the National Academy competing at this level.”

On his chosen captain, Gemmell added: “Scott has the experience and leadership qualities that will be invaluable to the team throughout the series.”

With the final now being staged at the home of Scottish rugby in 2007, Murrayfield stadium, Gemmell concluded: “For any rugby player in Scotland, it is a massive honour to play at Murrayfield because it’s what every player dreams of. It will also give the public the opportunity to support a great event and see some of the best international rugby players in the world close-up.”

The Scotland 7s squad will get off to a lively start in Dubai when they take on England in their first fixture of the series and will compete against teams like France, New Zealand and Australia in the remaining pool fixtures of the two tournaments.
